As part of the tradition of community bands that began in 1828 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Springfield Community Band is proud of providing summer evening band concerts for residents of the Connecticut River Valley for over 7 decades. The band was formed in 1946 when some nineteen high school and adult musicians got together under the direction of Wendell Cook. Since then the band has played under fourteen more conductors with Nick Pelton currently serving on the podium for many years and continuing this honored tradition.
To those of you who are not currently members of the band, we urge you to consider (re)joining us. All of the band members are here for the joy of making music together and enhancing our skills. We are not looking for musical perfection though it is great when we come close. When things don’t go so well there is always safety in numbers, which is why we are seeking more members. We understand that many activities take place throughout the summer and few people can participate in all of the concerts. We ask is that you be a member of the band, play as many rehearsals and concerts as you can, and let us know which concerts you are not going to play. Players that need help obtaining or restoring serviceable instruments, or just need additional information and encouragement, can contact Karen Mather at 802-886-5478.
